Dr. Emanuela Colombo is a postdoc at the Neurological Disorders Unit at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. Since the beginning of her studies, her main research activities have been directed towards the study of neuroimmunology. During her PhD training (carried out at the Carlo Besta Neurological Institute in Milan and at San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, in the Laboratory of Immunobiology of neurological diseases directed by Dr. Cinthia Farina) her scientific work focused on the interaction of different systems (immune, nervous and muscular systems) in biological processes associated with autoimmune muscle disorders. In March 2012 she obtained the PhD degree in Biotechnology applied to Medical Sciences at the University of Milan. Then, in the last 10 years, her research has mainly been directed at the study of the role of astrocytes in the inflammatory, neurodegenerative and demyelinating processes of multiple sclerosis.
