Dr. Pietro Avanzini is a researcher at the National Research Council (CNR), Institute of Neuroscience. He is currently the scientific coordinator of the Parma headquarter of the same Institute.
His studies are mainly related to System and Computational Neuroscience, with specific attention paid to the characterization of the cortical areas endowed with the human mirror mechanism. To address this topic, since 2009, he acquired knowledge about neural signal recording and processing, and in particular about electroencephalography. He contributed papers relative to cortical motor rhythms’ reactivity and more in general to motor system activation during passive action observation tasks.
Starting from these observations, he is currently investigating via intracranial recordings the neural mechanisms underlying conscious perception, sensorimotor awareness and its alterations.
To date, he co-authored 59 research papers, with an overall h-index of 16 on Scopus and 19 on Google Scholar
